Karyn grew up around sports. In school, she played volleyball, basketball, and track, and at home, shirts and skins football in the yard with the boys. As a young adult, her activity stopped, and her weight spiraled out of control. After her dad died at age 50 from a massive heart attack in 1997, she knew it was time to take back control of her life. She stopped smoking and worked hard to lose 80 pounds, down to a “normal” weight.
Years of working out in a big box gym and running with a running group never gave Karyn the results she wanted. She heard about CrossFit from a coworker in January of 2010, and once she tried it, she was hooked. She discovered a new level of fitness, camaraderie and competition with CrossFit. She placed second in the scaled women’s division of CrossFit Katy’s 2010 “Bring the Heat Summer Challenge.”
Now, as a CrossFit Level 1 Certified Trainer, she is passionate about helping others push themselves way beyond the elliptical and leg extension machines, to find the confidence and strength to get their first dead hang pull-up or handstand, to look great naked… to take back control of their lives.
